So many scattered thoughts in my head. SNL and Crosby Stills & Nash, and the notorious infamous Datsun. I am pretty sure you are the one who introduced me to Carl Sagan as well. And let's not forget chemistry. Always I have told the kids how you got me through chemistry. It made all the difference in the world. You took an interest. How about all those times you threatened to call Santa Claus and tell him not to stop at our place because we were naughty. Nah, I guess I don't really hold a grudge, but I haven't forgotten either! Holidays and goose rather than turkey, and being the only one I knew who had an Aunt and Uncle who were so close in age to myself. People to tell me what was cool and "in" and groovy. Thanks for having faith in me back then, I didn't have a lot in myself, but I always have known you believed I could have gone onto college and succeeded. It has always mattered. Thanks for being the Uncle I always needed.
Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun. Shine on you crazy diamond. Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky. Shine on you crazy diamond. You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom, blown on the steel breeze. Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine! You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon. Shine on you crazy diamond. Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light. Shine on you crazy diamond. Well you wore out your welcome with random precision, rode on the steel breeze. Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!
Josey Wales said it well: "We all lost a lot in that damn war" ... " I rode with him and I got no complaints".Yes Rick, "we will endeavor to persevere". Fare thee well.
