Easter--April 12, 2009

HAPPY EASTER--Now that I've made it to Easter, let's shoot for Memorial Day as the next target. My brother-in-law got me approved for SSI benefits which don't start for a month

  1. Well Rick, You are at it again! After talking to Mary about the experiences you kids had at St.Lucy's I decided to spend Easter morning at Mass there in honor of you. The priest there is a social activist who walks the walk and talks the talk. I knew this about him before entering his Church (knew him years ago). Well Rick it was like the Woodstock of congregations. There were Doctor's (yes my family Doctor) and the poorest of God's children, those with disabilities, black, white, Hispanic, you name it. The alter was beautiful with a HUGE banner around those gothic spires declaring, "We are called to be peacemakers". For a sermon he preached against the teachings of the hierarchy of the Catholic church with regard to almost every social issue you could imagine. He said we needed to pray for them because the real change in the church was coming from the bottom up. What a beautiful service and I thought of the literally hundreds of hours we spent talking about spiritual search and spiritual teachers. I realized that in trying to reconnect with our dialogue, I went to the Church of your youth and had the most meaningful spiritual experience I can remember. As I was leaving, I looked up at the choir loft and there was this huge banner proclaiming, "THE HOLY SPIRIT IS LOOSE AND SHE IS WILD". But then you know that don't ya buddy? So glad to read that someone is feeding Mary and Peter! Love, April and Jp

  2. Kate and I stopped by Friday morning. Rick was not awake but seemed comfortable. We told him old stories, like the time he rescued a bird in front of our office--15 years ago. We still have the darned bird and figure it will outlive all of us
